San antonio - padova

in church after church the people walk
bewildered by the faith that others had
their eyes cannot absorb the way walls talk
of simple wonder in the sight of god

and nor can mine - i stand in this vast space
and all my senses sulk against the night
my world's reduced to by this holy face
that pokes its nose in every drop of light

but still within the deepest darkness yet
a crawling spirit nibbles through its cell
throws off its church and can't let me forget
that sickness is a cry for getting well

in this old church the bricks entomb a ghost
but i am risen and not entirely lost
