PER CADA OBJECTE

He començat a arrencar, irracionalment,
els pocs trossos de vidre que queden al parabrisa
d'aquest vell cotxe abandonat,
desinflat de rodes, amb llantes saquejades
i tots els panys forçats. Els tinc entre els dits,
jugo amb ells sense por, invisibles als ulls,
notant els cantells punteguts, les arestes esmolades,
com fragments de llenguatge que s'arreceren massa
a la vida, a punt per tallar. Per cada objecte
que em passa per les mans podria imaginar
una història ben intencionada. Acabo fent-los servir,
sense excepció, com a fruits fora de temps.
¿Encobreixen sempre, i necessàriament,
la meua voluntat quan començo a escriure un poema?
En realitat em fan patir, com una infecció,
aquestes miques de vidre que em raspallen
el palmell de la mà. Fet i fet hauria d'haver decidit
no acostar-m'hi gaire, a aquest cotxe desballestat.
I tanmateix aquesta petita molèstia, com l'aire fred
que entra per la finestra oberta en un matí
de febrer, serveix també per airejar la casa.

FOR EVERY OBJECT

Mindlessly, I started to remove
the few pieces of glass left on the windshield
of that old abandoned car,
with flat tires, the hubcaps missing
and all the door locks busted. I hold them,
invisible to my eyes, and play with them unafraid,
feeling the pointed tips, the sharp edges,
like fragments of language, hiding behind
life, ready to cut. For every object
that goes through my hands I could imagine
a well-intended story. I end up using them,
every single one, like fruit out of season.
Do they always and necessarily cover up
for my will when I start to write a poem?
They actually make me suffer, like an infection,
these little bits of glass that scrape across
the palms of my hands. I should have decided
not to get too close to this beat-up car.
But this small minor discomfort, like a cold
draft coming in the window on a February
morning, also serves to air out the house.
