Responses to American Poetry

The aim of this online space is to host the research work of university students or young scholars as this emerges from larger projects focusing on the American poetry scene. The objective of this initiative is to bring this kind of research activity to the attention of the general public in an attempt to further promote the exchange of ideas with regard to the process of reading, understanding and appreciating poetry writing.

Poems and Process in the Narrative Medicine Context

This year’s collaboration focuses on the Division of Narrative Medicine in Columbia University, U.S. and its Applied Writing course taught by Catherine Rogers (playwright, Fulbright alumna) together with Alexis Almeida (Faculty Associate).

The poems contributed here by Alexis Almeida, Matthew Eck, Lauryn Jones, and Daniel Ryan attempt to shed light on how creative writing can enable the articulation of crucial questions that draw from the healthcare environment while address issues that interweave body and mind.

You’re invited to begin your exploration from Catherine Rogers’ introduction that sets the context out of which this creative writing & narrative medicine endeavor springs, and then gradually move to the reading of the poems themselves.

The special project presented here highlights the centrality of creative writing within interdisciplinarity and the necessity of hearing our own voice as we’re trying to respond to questions and concerns that derive from our inner and outer world.

 

Ποιήματα και η Διαδικασία Γραφής στο Πλαίσιο της Αφηγηματικής Ιατρικής

Η φετινή συνεργασία επικεντρώνεται στο Τμήμα Αφηγηματικής Ιατρικής του Πανεπιστημίου Κολούμπια των ΗΠΑ και στο μάθημα Εφαρμοσμένης Γραφής που διδάσκει η Catherine Rogers (θεατρική συγγραφέας, απόφοιτη Fulbright) μαζί με την Alexis Almeida (συνεργάτης του Τμήματος).

Τα ποιήματα που συνεισφέρουν εδώ οι Alexis Almeida, Matthew Eck, Lauryn Jones και Daniel Ryan επιχειρούν να ρίξουν φως στον τρόπο με τον οποίο η δημιουργική γραφή μπορεί να διατυπώσει κρίσιμα ερωτήματα που αντλούνται από το περιβάλλον της υγειονομικής περίθαλψης ενώ παράλληλα διερευνούν ζητήματα που συνδέουν το σώμα και τον νου.
